  • Introduction :Hibiscus sabdariffa has been used as an anti-inflammatory empirically, but have not been provened scientifically. Objectives : The aim of this study is to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx extract on white male Wistar rats. Methods : The steps in this study consist of the plant determination, phytochemical screening, macerated with ethanol 70%, testing of anti-inflammatory activity at 102, 205, and 410 mg extract per 200 g BW with sodium diclofenac as positive control in carrageenan-induced inflammatory rats, then data analyzed by ANOVA. Results : The phytochemical screening showed that Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx contain saponins, flavonoids, quinones, and steroids. The maceration rendement was 28.57%. All three doses of the extract have anti-inflammatory activity with percentage of inflammatory inhibition were 22.03; 31.48 and 31.93% at 102, 205 and 410 mg, respectively. Conclusion : The Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx extract have anti-inflammatory activity.
