  • This research was conducted in the Fisheries Laboratory and Biotechnology Laboratory, University of Muhammadiyah Malang in February 2014. This study aims to determine the effect of chitosan with different doses of the hematocrit level and leukocrit and growth of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and get a chitosan concentration and hematocrit level that gives leukocrit and growth and the best dose. The method used is an experimental method to completely randomized design (CRD) which subsequently the data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). This study uses 5 treatment provision chitosan dissolved in 2% acetic acid, namely; P1 (chitosan concentration of 0%) as a control, P2 (chitosan concentration of 0.5%), P3 (chitosan concentration of 1%), P4 (chitosan concentration of 1.5%), and P5 (chitosan concentration of 2%), each with three replications. The results of this study indicate an immunostimulant administration of chitosan for maintenance 16 days before challenge test bacterium Aeromonas hydrophilla effect on hematocrit levels in treatment P1, P2, P3 and P4 with the highest value in the treatment of P5 by 47.10%. Results after challenge test bacterium Aeromonas hydrophilla chitosan provision does not affect the level of hematocrit, levels leukocrit and growth of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). In conclusion, the prevention of disease caused by the bacteria Aeromonas hydrophila can use chitosan concentration of 2%. Further research needs to be done about the provision of chitosan with different concentrations through the application of chitosan in feed to determine the effectiveness of chitosan and the test results were significantly different.
