  • Background: Malassezia furfur is a normal flora of the human skin that can turned into pathogens and caused various fungal infections. Kepok banana contains many antioxidants such as tannins that proven effective in inhibiting the growth of Malassezia furfur by inhibiting the synthesis of fungal cell wall support that could damage the permeability of fungal cell membranes. Purpose : To determine the antifungal effect of banana peel extract (Musa paradisiaca L.) on the growth of Malassezia furfur in vitro. Methods : Experimental post test only with control group design, used tube dilution test with concentration of banana peel extract 100%, 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, 3,125%, 1,56%, 0,78% , 0.39%, 0%. Data were analyzed using One Way Anova and Post Hoc Bonferroni. Discuss and Results: MIC (Minimal Inhibitory Concentration) couldn’t be observed. MBC (Minimal Bactericidal Concentration) at concentration 50%. Data analysis with One Way Anova had significance of 0.005 (p <0,05). The Bonferroni Post Hoc test showed that the significant result started at concentration 25% with significance value 0,036 (p<0.05). Conclusion: Banana kepok peel extract (Musa paradisiaca) can reduce the growth of Malassezia furfur in vitro.
