- Keyword : Speech Style, Casual, Formal, Consultative, Intimate, Frozen. Style is level of formality used when someone is speaking or writing based on the situation and occasion. Style which deals with someone’s way of speaking are called as the speech style. Oprah Winfrey talk show is one of the popular talk shows which always presents the newest issues in special performance. The purpose of this study is know what are the types of speech style used by “Oprah Winfrey” and know what are the most frequently speech style by “Oprah Winfrey”. This study uses descriptive qualitative in relation to the use of clear and systematic description about the phenomena being studied. The result four speech style produced by the host : frozen, formal, casual, intimate, consultative style. Formal style is most frequently used by the host in “Oprah Winfrey” talk show program, followed by casual style, consultative style, intimate style and frozen style. Furthermore, we can see that formal style mostly occurs in the talk show program 24.57%, casual style is 21.84%, consultative style is 19.11%, intimate style is 13.65% and frozen style is 4.55%. The writer hopes that the finding of the study can be a media to enrich literature in English Department. Therefore, the English Department students can increase the collection of references especially the references which deal with the topic of this study. Moreover, the researcher suggests to the next researchers to conduct study about speech style in different occasion to enrich the researchers’ which have been conducted previously.
