- Soil improvement is the efforts to improve the quality of soil characteristics. Soil improvement methods used in this study was Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD). Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) is a geosynthetic material. Conceptually, when the land which is not using PVD material, then will occur pore water flow vertically due to the load on the subgrade resulting large settlement which taking long time due to low soil permeability. Having used Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD), pore water will flow horizontally and vertically resulting consolidation settlement time more faster. PVDs are installed vertically and collected pore water then channeled vertically both upwards and downwards along the PVD layer of the soil. This study aims to determine the magnitude of the settlement in total consolidation that occurred before and after install Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD), and knowing the time required to achieve consolidation. The results of the analysis concluded that to achieve the degree of consolidation of 90% at the point of the review without using PVD needed consolidation for 23 years 7 months 18 days while consolidation obtained using PVD triangle pattern with a row spacing of 1.2 m; 1.4 m; and 1.6 m it takes time consolidation for 130 days; 180 days; and 240 days, while in a square pattern with a row spacing of 1.2 m; 1.4 m; and 1.6 m it takes time consolidation for 140 days; 200 days; and 270 days.
