- World Health Organization (WHO) recommend exclusive breastfeeding should be given to infants at age 0-6 months. However, there is a culture in Asemrowo as giving weaning food beside breastfeeding milk before infant reached 6 months old. The purpose of this study was to analyze the associated factors of exclusive breastfeeding of 0-6 months infants based on transcultural nursing theory. Design used was cross-sectional approach. Population were mothers with the infants of 0-24 months who has been given exclusive breastfeeding. 47 sample respondents were chosen by cluster sampling method. Independent variables in this study were educational, economic, and cultural values and life ways. The data were collected by using questionnaire and analyzed by using chi square test with a degree of significance α < 0.05. The results showed educational mostly were high educated (36%) and low education (21%). Economic status mostly low (40%). Cultural values and life ways mostly negative (64%). Based on the study, cultural values and life ways is the most associated factor of exclusive breastfeeding of 0-6 months infants in Asemrowo Surabaya. The factors in transcultural nursing (educational, economic, cultural values and life ways) have a significantly affecting the exclusive breastfeeding activity. Further research was suggested to enhance and support exclusive breastfeeding with an effective health education.
