  • A study on sugar loss in cane-stock of the first crop and ratoon crop grown under lowland and upland conditions was done from May to December 1995 in sugarcane area of Madukismo Sugar Factory, Yogyakarta. Data recorded from 12 conditions of combinatio of three factors: sugarcane clone (PS 58, Ps 77-1553, Bz 148), land condition (lowland and upland), and crop type (first crop and ratoon) were subjected to a minimum distance method cluster analysis. Dendogram was then constructed. Cluster analysis of cane sugar in root-stock showed that Ps 771553 first crop under upland condition was similar to that of Ps 58 first crop in lowland. Similarly was seen of ratooned Bz 148 and first crop of Ps 77-1553. High cane sugar was found in root-stock of Ps 77-1553 both in lowland and upland. Cane sugar found in cane root-stock for the various combination ranged from 8.8 to 19.4 % from the total amount which might be obtained from the cane s alk Based on the existing data, in order to minimize cane sugar loss, cane stalk should be cut as dose to the soil surface as possible, particularly for first crop in lowland areas. Keywords: root-stock first crop - ratoon - lowland
