- Kemalang subdistrct of the Klaten district is an area where extractions of Merapi volcano sand and stones operate. The extraction site is along the Woro river. People living within villages inside the Merapi peak area do the sand and stone extration activities for their livelihood. The volcano�s last eruption in October 26 to 6 November 2001 was a point within a cycle of great eruptions. And its ash-laden gas clouds ran over an area of the18 km radius. The eruption did have impacts on the sand and stone extraction activities operated by communities settling around the site. The research is to determine: 1) variables influencing their incomes before and after the 2010 eruption
