  • Diabetes is a serious disease that affects all of vital organs in the body characterized by high blood sugar levels. Approximately 15% of people with diabetes will develop complications of ulcer during their lifetime of the disease. This study aimed to evaluate the use of antibiotics in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with foot ulcer complications in dr. Soeradji Tirtonegoro hospital during 2014. This research is an observational (non-experimental) research that was conducted retrospectively and was analyzed descriptively. The analyzed data included appropriate of patient, drug and dose that was adjusted with standard therapy. The inclusion criteria of sample included the primary diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus with foot ulcers complications, with or without comorbidities and used antibiotics. The results of this research showed that antibiotics use in patients with foot ulcers in dr. Soeradji Tirtonegoro hospital during 2014 were ceftriaxone 76%, cefixime 8%, cefotaxime 4%, and cefadroxil 4%. The combinations of antibiotics were ceftriaxone-metronidazole 60%, ceftriaxone-clindamycin 12%, cefotaxime-metronidazole 4%, and cefixime-metronidazole 2%. The appropiate uses of antibiotics according to this research were 100% for appropiate of patient, 68% for drug and 76% for dose.
