Kinetics and Mechanism of Acid Hydrolysis of Some (Substituted Salicylato) Pentaammine-Cobalt(III) Complexes

College, Bhubaneswar-6 Manuscript received 6 December 1975, revised 6 March 1976 ,· accepted 11 March 1976 The acid hydrolysis of some pentaammine(substituted salicylato) cobalt(lll) complexes has been studied spectrophotometrically in the temperature range 65°-80° in a medium of 1.0 M ionic strength adjusted with NaClO4. Aquation of the complexes proceed by two parallel paths, one independent of [H+] and another first-order in [H+]. Rate constants and activation parameters for both the paths have been determined.
